Initial disclaimer: I am not a doctor, I am not in the medical profession. I am a prepper, and as such, have my own Credo. I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
Alright, so I have read a lot of articles, watched videos and done some research. Antibiotics are important, but need saved for serious infections. Why is this? Because they are expensive and hard to come by. Well, at least expensive. Prescriptions are necessary for human antibiotics, and getting a script just to get it is not very likely.
There is a lot of talk of fish antibiotics, and a specific manufacturer as well. There is a variety, and on top of that, there is the antibiotic name, not just the fish med name. To me, this is rather important. Like I have said, I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. To me, it is worth a risk that it may not be a perfect analogue.
$141.30 for 5 different antibiotics to be stored with my medical supplies. I went with some of the smaller doses with more pills. Why, because 2 250mg is equal to 1 500mg, and getting 3.5 times the volume also allows doses to be broken up. I have no plan to build a complete pharmacy, but basic things that are hard to come by are worth the risk.
So, this reminds me of an episode of Sliders, where there was never the invention on penicillin, and people would die from simple ailments. Professor Arturo ended up culturing penicillin, and allowed the civilization to be able to grow. Antibiotics can save your life, and I would suggest at least looking into it. What is the worst that can happen? You decide it isn’t for you? Or maybe you do. Worth a few minutes of your time, isn’t it?
